AMERICAN GOVERNMENT
UNIT
STUDY
Civics class – what boring and dull memories this brings to mind! We know that we need to teach our children the basics of American Government, but how can we study it so that we all stay interested while real learning takes place?
"Children should be educated and instructed in the principles of freedom."
The people and events in the history of American
government tell a tale that brings the basics of our government to life.
Who exactly were the Founding Fathers, and why are they still such
hot topics of debate? Why did they want to not only break away from
England, but form a new and very different form of government? Just
exactly what was the “Great Compromise” and what difference did it make?
And, by the way, wait until you learn about the Electoral College and the
real reason for its creation. AMERICAN GOVERNMENT is structured as a four-week study on CDROM, spending each week on key features, with lesson plans for each day of the study. There are reading and writing assignments (Read and Discover), spelling and vocabulary words (Words of Wisdom), biography and geography studies (People and Places to Know), and Family Projects. Favorite books and Internet sites are included in the lesson plans as well as a large resource collection of Internet sites for each week of study. Each day's lesson plan has been written on two levels. There is a daily lesson plan for Elementary Grades, and one for Upper Grades (Jr/Sr High). While materials are included for younger elementary grades, the topic of this study is typically more interesting to students in grades 4 and up. 137 pages, printable for your family's use.
